Joan Goldstein
BIOGRAPHY
Joan was graduated from Hunter College with a degree in Speech Pathology and Education. This was followed by a long career as the editor of Movie Mirror, Modern Screen, and TV and Movie Screen . She laughs, "That was enough to send anyone on a search for peace and sanity."

In order to deal with the anxieties of "churning out provocative titles like a gossip programmed computer, the old garbage in garbage out routine," she turned to meditation. A graduate of the Silva Mind Method, she left her career as a fan magazine editor in 1981 to pursue the study of yoga in India under the guidance of a master, from whom she received the spiritual name of Ambika.

She began teaching meditation in the 80's and created a unique corporate training program in stress management at Home Insurance in 1993. Since then she's conducted stress management training seminars and workshops in major corporations throughout Manhattan. Ms. Goldstein worked with the cardiac rehab group in Hartford Hospital, Hartford, Connecticut in setting up their first Stress Clinic.

She trained professionally with Jon Kabat-Zinn, whose Stress Clinic in the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, the first of its kind in the world, was featured on the Bill Moyers show. In addition to co-authoring The Joy Within, she's been writing on meditation and medicine for national magazines and newspapers for the past 15 years. Her humor and insights into the human condition are both uplifting and healing.
